Why undertake a placement?

Teachers, Tutors & Trainers

Placements allow participants to refresh and develop their skills through "hands-on" experience in the workplace. Whether it is getting to grips with the latest in best practice, learning about new techniques to sharpen their skills, or fulfilling mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) requirements, teachers, tutors and trainers return to their roles with refreshed skills and an up-to-date view of industries' and employers' needs.

School Pupils & FE Students

STAR's work placement scheme for School Pupils & FE Students is designed to create links between schools and businesses by offering individuals the opportunity to experience and develop key skills for the world of work. Work placements for students work to raise aspirations, develop soft skills and generally give the individual a 'real life' view of industry.

Experience

STAR has previously provided a national coordinator service for Business Interchange, part of Lifelong Learning UK's Catalyst programme. This was a government funded programme designed to help teachers, tutors and trainers working in FE to increase their skills and experience through placements within businesses.

The programme was a great success with over 1200 placements taking place. It not only enabled teachers to ensure that their vocational expertise was current but many providers developed long term relationships with their hosts which has lead to further training delivery and placement opportunities for students.
